• Casting

    This course aims at introducing the basics and fundamentals of casting technology and structure of cast parts and their properties. The students will be also able to identify the proper casting method for engineering products. The casting defects and their causes will make the student appreciate the significance of the proper casting technology.

  • Most of the advancements in the field of materials engineering is related to the progress and improvement of the refractory materials, and the design and operation of furnaces. This is because the processing and treatment of materials are usually done at high temperatures, and thus, the need for appropriate linings for the industrial furnaces is of prime importance. In this course we will discuss and learn the basics of art and technology of producing and using the refractory materials. Since the refractories are ceramic materials, the structure of ceramic materials is also emphasized in this course to provide a suitable background on the structure of refractories. The fuels, their types, characteristics, and combustions are thoroughly covered. This course and the one on the heat transfer and furnace design, provide the materials engineer a great confidence and excellent background when dealing with different industrial furnaces.
