(STAT 421: Statistical Packages)

The purpose of this course is to

1) Introduce and train students on using different statistical packages that are commonly used in statistical analysis like SPSS and STATA as well as some more advanced programming-based packages like R. This is achieved through a combination of theoretical and applied teaching methods.

2) Develop student’s ability to formulate research questions.

3) Train students on handling and manipulating survey data sets.

4) Help students develop analytical skills; select one or more appropriate methodologies for a given data set depending on the research question under investigation and test the model’s assumption. They should be able to apply this methodology themselves using different statistical software and interpret the results.

Develop report-writing skills through short statistical reports.
