Recent developments in Earth observation systems such as; imaging radar, LiDAR and hyperspectral sensors are increasing the wealth of information that can be generated from remotely sensed data sources. Geospatial data (spatially-referenced data from sources such as digital maps, remote sensing and satellite images) provide; multi-dimensional visualization, multi-resolution and multi-scale significant information for different fields of engineering. Geographic Information System (GIS) provides a suite of tools; for manipulating, analyzing, visualizing and displaying such geospatial data. The course presents basic concepts and principles of remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS), addressing relevant scientific and technical aspects as used within various engineering applications.
